The petiole is the leaf stalk.


The phloem is the outer layer of the tree that carries sap and photosynthates to all part of the tree.


PH is a measure of soil acidity. PH 7.0 is neutral. Lower PH is acid, and higher PH is alkaline.


Photosynthesis is the process whereby sunlight is absorbed by plant foliage and converted into sugars by combining carbon dioxide and water.


Pinching is a technique used to increase twigging and ramification in bonsai, by carefully pinching or pulling off small shoots by hand.


Pinnate is a term used for a leaf stem that comprises several 'leaflets' on separate stalks.


Perlite is a soil medium or component of a soil mix which is lightweight, and porous,  that can hold water and air.


A pot is a growing container for bonsai, usually made of high-fired clay, or cement.


Pumice is a white, light, porous, and hard volcanic product used as a medium in a bonsai soil mix.
